Credit Crunched Into Unemployment

Submitted by jaded on Thu, 08/21/2008 - 10:53.

I've been credit crunched out of a banking analyst job, after a 2 year contract.

A good thing about a downturn is that being on the bench is socially acceptable, to the extent that unemployed IT contractors have much of a peer group, anyway. The bad part is that when the summer ends, and you have to think about going to work, then the competition is stiff and rates are down.

Anyways, I have a couple of things to share with you:
1) Being unemployed is fine until you start getting money problems, then even a shit job is better, really it is. If job is shit, look for different job.

What's wrong with you people?

What the fuck?!?!?!?!?

I just left a job I have had for 4 years in pursuit of a better opportunity. I hated the last job I had and the company is slowing failing, so I started looking. I landed this great job with a small but growing bank as a Senior Network Administrator. I interviewed with 4 different folks on different occasions and was loved by all. Even the Chief Operations Officer loved me and was happy to hire me. I started the job and work a hole 2 and 1/2 days before being fired and walked out of the building.

I was just reading some of my old blogs. Do me a favor and do a search for Demandred. Feel free to tell me how much of a tool I was. Come to think of it, I might still be.

Did you know that FThisJob.com does not have an entry on Wikipedia? Can we not do something about that? Just a thought.

Get back to me on that.

A Quick (or Not) Update

Submitted by Morvayne on Thu, 06/28/2007 - 01:11.

I have been lucky these last few months. If you ever get the chance to work in file custody, even as a temp, at a big company, take it! I started with very low expectations, at $8.50/hr, doing monkey work. After working in restaurants for the previous six years, this was so easy it was pathetic. I started with a great supervisor who looked out for me, and gave me a little more responsibility here and there, but not so much that I felt taken advantage of. Within a week, I was a (unofficial) team leader, but without the extra pay. But, since my duties were not unreasonable or difficult, I didn't complain. I didn't have to suck up or go out of my way to impress anyone (which I swore I would never do again). I just showed up every day and exceeded production standards (which isn't difficult considering these standards are for people who have just now mastered how to operate the drink fountain at Mickey Deez) and spoke my mind on all subjects on which my input was called for. After two months, a team lead spot opened up and my then supervisor (!) personally recommended me, saying "I've been trying to get you a raise anyway and I've been needing someone in that department I can depend on to cooperate with me." No pressure, right? Right! It turns out that these guys in my new department were lazy and slow, and their former team leader was buddies with these guys. My new supervisor almost immediately replaces half my new crew with young women who will work harder and with more initiative. There's even heavy lifting involved. But overall my new position didn't really require extra work, but it came with a $2/hr raise.

Had a hell of a day today at work and need an outlet to bitch. My poor boyfriend cannot stand to hear anymore bullshit about checking accounts or loans.

Anyway, the bank I work for is merging with another this year. Upper management thought it would be good for the company if we met our yearly goals by JUNE! So, customers are all upset but somehow we should miraculously meet our ANNUAL goal by JUNE so that our executives can get a fat bonus before we merge. Total bullshit.

That wouldn't be so bad if we had good marketing and products. Goes to show that moving to another company for money is not always a good idea! I actually made one of my staff cry when I moved a filing cabinet in the office! What the fuck do I do if I need to have a "conversation" with her about her sales goals. Better hide the letter openers!

High School Drop Out - College Grad

this is my first post to my favorite site. i dropped out of hi school and got a job. i quickly realized that my 3 years of education was not going to be a good thing. yup I said 3 years of education, if I had graduated i would of had 4 years of education. think about it...hi school grads and college grads are proud of the fact that they have 12 or 16 years of edumucation. guess again....if you are a hi school grad you really have only 4 years of workable knowledge. i do not earn a living with the things i learned in kindergarten - 8th grade.

guess what....you get $10 an hour as you have the knowledge and skills of a child.

You think you have it bad having to work with mean co-workers and grunpy bosses. How about imaginge having super vivious co-workers, rageholic insane bosses and a firm culture where starters ought to be shit on. On top of that you also get to work on shit that is inhumanely boring and dragging and worthless for 16+ hour days and most of the weekends.
Yeah that is me. Spending 90-100 hours out of the 168 hour week being ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE. I only have 78 hours a week to myself but that minus the very lttile time I get to sleep on average (including the weekends 6 hours a day which equals to 42 a week) Minus the time I use to commute to and back from work which is 7 hours/week. I only have 19 hours/ week to be myself. Not to mention I also spend time getting ready for work and getting ready to go to bed. How sad!!!! I only have less than 3 days out of a month where I am concious and not absolutely miserable.

I Hate my job, been working there 6 months. Its in Finance, Its CRAP, and Boring and the people are all Idiots. If you complain to one of the idiot’s that work there they just reply with “that’s the way it is, you just have to put up with it and that’s it” what a crock of sh”t, I don’t HAVE to put up with the crap there, with that B*tch of a manager finding everything to pick on me with, just because those idiots think they have to put up with it and that’s life, well it may be theirs and they can have it, but you only live once and I don’t plan on it being like this!

Everyday I would hope that the bus would crash just so I wouldn’t have to go in, I would rather die than work in that hole.

To everyone I work with except S* (just incase someone else I work with blogs here too names will not be added)

Fire crotch- Why do you care so much about all the drama at the bank? Why do you insist on spreading all the gossip? Why are you so hateful toward me because I don't encourage it?!? And you went to college, so why is it that you never can get your work done and you fuck the schedule up every week, you never approve my time correctly and you get stressed out like your job is actually demanding!?!?

RR- I don't like you because you are trashy. No, I don't want to go to the bars & clubs with you and WT, you two are just gross and damn am I working on the wrong side of town. Who knew a well known bank could harbor such trash? And the next goddamn time I am called into an office to talk about how you dont like my attitude I swear I wont be so nice. Next time I'll tell you what a piece of shit you are in front of the manager. k by the way- your grammar is AWFUL! its not "I seen you" its "I saw you" and accepted is not pronounced essepted!!! AND WHO THE HELL BRAGS ABOUT BEING FROM CAPITOL HILL WE LIVE IN OKLAHOMA IT ISNT COOL!!!!!!!!

Every have to tell a customer well we can't do that because policy states right here in our legal agreement, sign, negative 20 size fine print at the bottom of page 56, or fucking post it note behind the desk that says we can't do this. BLAH BLAH BLAH! I have heard that shit way too much at the company I work with. I will leave the company name out of it. Trust me, I have dealt with some very pissed off customers to say the least! Some of them truly have been fucked by our company; however, about half of them put them selves in that position and deserved what happened. What did I start doing, make decisions.

Its like that then?

Let me reverse this a little bit so you guys can get some perspective. I started at this company very early last year. Me and this other coworker started at the same time and were in the same orientation class. We became friends quickly and hung out after work after our shifts hitting the bar or whatever to bitch about work or women. Then we both got promoted to other departments late this summer and started working other shifts on top of it. We still hung out when ever possible and stuff until about a month ago. Not a big deal still on good terms and what not. Never a cross word between us anything of the sort.
